Candy Cane Coral (Caulastrea furcate) are very hardy large polyp stony corals. The fleshy actively growing areas of this variant are brown and green. We also have an all green variant. Their appearance at night can be significantly different then during the day. After sunset they take on more of a classic textbook polyp appearance with tentacles extended for feeding. They are sometimes referred to as Trumpet coral.
Small fragments of this coral can often contain a bit of a stony “branch” that is almost rock like in appearance and coloration. Mature healthy colonies may look more spherical, similar to brain corals. Like most LPS corals, they can use sweeper tentacles to attack aggressive neighbors, but these are often only a few centimeters long and not as frequently seen as other species.
Like all the corals currently listed from TerraReef, this specimen is an aquacultured coral.
It is very important that you are aware of the care requirements of these corals before ordering. Please take some time to read some information from a few sources.
This item is a WYSIWYG item meaning the specimen you receive will be the exact one in the picture. Sometimes we include images of our mother colonies as well to give an idea of what the corals will grow into under proper care. Size is an approximation.
